What else we build once the water has somewhere to go
If your yard holds water after a storm, the grass is only the symptom. We’re a yard drainage contractor in Atlanta — French drains, catch basins, buried downspout drainage and regrading — and we walk the property before we quote anything serious.
We come out in the rain.
On a dry day a wet yard looks like every other yard. On a big job we’d rather see where the water actually goes, which is why we walk the property during a real rain event before pricing it. Nobody else offers this, and it’s the reason our drainage work doesn’t come back.
Downspout drainage, buried to daylight.
Most standing water starts at the roof. We connect the downspouts to buried solid pipe and carry it to a natural area or the street with a pop-up emitter. Simple, cheap relative to everything else, and it solves more yards than people expect.
Catch basins and French drains.
An NDS catch basin tied into a pipe run handles a low spot that collects. Where the water is in the ground rather than on it, a French drain does the work: perforated pipe in gravel, wrapped in filter fabric so it doesn’t silt up and quit in five years.
Grading, when pipe isn’t the answer.
Sometimes the ground is simply pitched at the house. Bobcat regrading resets the fall, and it’s almost always paired with new sod or seed so you’re not left with bare dirt.
When it isn’t drainage.
Sometimes the water is a clogged gutter, a downspout that’s come apart, or a neighbour’s grading pushing runoff onto you. Two of those are cheap fixes and one is a conversation, not a trench. We’ll tell you which you have before quoting a system you don’t need.
Georgia clay is the reason.
Water doesn’t soak into red clay, it sits on it and runs. That’s why so much of this work is in Decatur and Druid Hills, where the lots are older and the grades were cut before anyone thought about runoff. If a retaining wall is involved, drainage goes in behind it — we don’t build one without it.
