What we do for Decatur yards
Decatur is seventeen minutes from our yard, and we’ve done more work here than anywhere outside Tucker itself. Older lots, big trees, tight side yards, and grades that were cut long before anyone thought about where the water was going to go.
Old lots drain the way old lots drain.
Most of these houses pre-date modern grading, so water runs toward the foundation instead of away from it. Drainage is our most common Decatur job by a wide margin — buried downspout runs carried out to a natural area or the street, catch basins where the yard collects, French drains where the water is in the ground rather than on it. On the bigger ones we’d rather walk the property during actual rain before quoting, because on a dry day a wet yard looks like every other yard.
Shade decides what will grow.
Oakhurst and Winnona Park have real canopy, and that rules out Bermuda — it wants full sun and thins badly without it. Zoysia takes part shade and is the safer choice on most Decatur lots. Where it’s too dark for either, we’ll say so rather than sell you a lawn that looks fine in June and bare by spring, and lay a Fescue or Fescue-clover seed package instead. Weekly lawn care, close to home.
Being this near the yard means Decatur routes are dense, so the same crew reaches you early and consistently. Mow, edge, blow, bed lines, shrub trimming on the same visit. Core aeration in the fall is the one service that changes a thin lawn rather than tidying it. How routes and billing work is on the lawn care page.
Stone suits these houses better than pavers.
Flagstone and natural stone sit better against a 1940s bungalow than a manufactured paver does, and much of our Decatur patio and walkway work is exactly that — tan and brown flagstone, grey stone treads for steps down to a lower yard. Beds get refreshed each spring with mulch or pine straw, weeded and re-edged first.
Cleanups and overgrowth.
Plenty of Decatur calls start as a reset rather than maintenance — a house going on the market, a rental between tenants, a property nobody has touched in a while. One visit takes it back to a clean baseline and everything goes with us the same day: overgrowth, dead plants, poison ivy and climbing vines out, English ivy kept if you want it. See yard cleanup.
